Illinois Libraries: Become an eRead Illinois member!

If you are an Illinois resident looking for e-books, visit the For Readers section.

eRead Illinois provides Illinois libraries (public, school, academic, and special) with affordable access to e-books. This shared collection may be a library’s primary e-book collection, or may augment the e-books that a library already offers its cardholders.

Who can join eRead Illinois?

Libraries in the Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS) or the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS) may participate.

  • IHLS libraries in the SHARE catalog join the Cloud Library group.
  • RAILS libraries and non-SHARE IHLS libraries join the Baker & Taylor Axis 360 group. Special libraries are eligible for the Axis 360 group only if they are government or non-profit agencies.

Axis 360 Considerations

The following applies only to RAILS libraries and non-SHARE IHLS libraries, for participation in the Axis 360 group:

  • School Library - School libraries may now purchase an unbound collection without paying a platform fee. The only fee will be for content. An unbound collection is a local collection for a library's users. Titles are only available to users of that particular library. Items purchased for an unbound collection are integrated into the magic wall so that all content is presented in one place for users.
  • Special Library - Only government and not-for-profit special libraries are eligible to participate in the Axis 360 shared collection
